Who Needs to have a
Contractor License in California?

In California, any individual or business performing construction work valued at $500 or more—including labor and materials—must hold a valid contractor license issued by the CSLB (Contractors State License Board). This requirement applies to independent contractors, self-employed workers, and anyone offering construction services for compensation.

If you plan to advertise, bid, or perform construction work legally in California, obtaining the correct CSLB license classification is required before starting any job.
